Jackie McHugh, Executive Assistant: 20 years of dedication at Laydex

Next in our 30-year celebration series, we hear from Jackie McHugh, Executive Assistant. With almost two decades of experience, Jackie has been a constant presence at Laydex: supporting the team, watching the business grow, and building lasting relationships along the way.

1. What’s the most memorable moment you’ve had while working at Laydex?

I was lucky enough to attend the 10th anniversary celebrations of Laydex not long after I joined—almost 20 years ago now. It was an amazing introduction to the company and gave me the chance to meet so many staff, suppliers, and customers early on. That event left a lasting impression on me.

I also feel fortunate to have worked with all of the original Laydex team. Two colleagues who really stood out were Christy Reilly and Tony Kirby, both of whom have sadly passed away. They had an incredible sense of humour and always looked out for me when I first started. Those early memories are still some of the most special to me.

2. What makes Laydex special?

It’s definitely the people. Laydex wouldn’t be what it is without the dedication and generosity of the team. People here genuinely go above and beyond, not just for customers, but for one another too.

The team steps in to help during busy times, sometimes people organise a big lunch for the office, and others drop a coffee on a desk in the morning. Those small acts really add up and create something special.

We’ve got good people at Laydex, and that makes all the difference.

3. Why do you think you have stayed with Laydex for as long as you have?

I’ve always enjoyed working here. My role as Executive Assistant is varied, so no two days are the same—and that keeps things interesting! I also value being part of a family-owned company. There’s a close-knit atmosphere, but the business is also growing and there’s real opportunity for personal development.

Laydex has always been supportive when I’ve wanted to learn new skills or take on additional challenges. And of course, the staff nights out are brilliant, they’re just another example of how people at Laydex connect and make work that bit more enjoyable and fun.
